Oven racks can quickly become covered with layers of baked-on grease, food residue, and carbon buildup. After months of roasting and baking, ordinary dish soap may not be enough to get them clean.

Fortunately, a simple soaking method can help loosen stubborn buildup and make the racks much easier to scrub.

What You’ll Need
A bathtub, large plastic container, or utility sink
Very hot water
Dishwashing liquid
A few dishwasher tablets or an appropriate dishwasher detergent, if compatible with your racks

An old towel
A non-scratch scrub pad or suitable brush
Rubber gloves
Always check your oven manufacturer’s instructions first, because some oven racks have special finishes that can be damaged by certain cleaners.
